WWE Saturday Night's Main Event is in the books, and so is John Cena's in-ring career in the Stamford-based promotion. While many didn't want The Franchise Player to go out in such a shocking fashion, Kevin Nash defended the finish and Gunther's win.

John Cena's final match occurred in Washington when he faced Gunther. To everyone's surprise, Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect tapped out for the first time in two decades to The Ring General in his last-ever match. While many were disappointed with the finish, Kevin Nash gave his take following Saturday Night's Main Event.

Speaking on Kliq This, the WWE Hall of Famer defended Gunther's win over John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event. The legend explained that tapping out was always a possibility, and the management and the weekly product would've gone nowhere had John Cena won his final match and left in-ring competition.

"Well, we talked about it before the show, and we all knew that the only finish that was a possible finish was for John Cena to tap because if Cena wins, how do you open Monday's show? What's the first segment on Monday Night RAW? If Cena wins, do we run his 20-minute package that we saw on Saturday, and do we add the last three minutes of his win on Saturday, and do we just put that in a bow and start from f**king scratch, pushing the f**king car up the hill, or do we come in with momentum?" Nash said. (From 34:26 to 32:35)

What's next for John Cena following WWE Saturday Night's Main Event?

John Cena's monumental career as an in-ring performer for over two decades in the Stamford-based promotion has come to an end. Luckily, The Franchise Player got to write the final chapter of his career before he reached 50 and retired before the business moved on from him.

However, he's not done with WWE, as ahead of his final match in Washington, John Cena revealed that he signed a new five-year deal with the company to become an ambassador. Moreover, rumors and speculations have been circulating that he could reportedly headline the Hall of Fame ceremony in 2026.
