Biff Poggi gets real on if 5-star recruit Bryce Underwood will play for Michigan in 2026

Bryce Underwood's future at Michigan has been the talk of the town after the school fired Sherrone Moore on Dec. 10. Underwood, a former five-star recruit, has been linked with a move away from Michigan, and many are eager to know if the quarterback will return to Ann Arbor for the 2026 season.

On Monday, Michigan's interim head coach Biff Poggi said he expects Underwood to return to the team for next season.

“Bryce? Well, I certainly hope so. I would hope so, yeah,” Poggi said. “I mean, you want to ask that question, you should probably ask him or his dad or mom.”

Poggi also said that he wasn't too worried about Underwood's plans for next year, and that the QB is also focusing on Michigan's bowl game against Texas on New Year's Eve.

“I mean, we’re focused on Texas right now," Poggi said. "He’s focused on Texas. Have you seen any film on Texas? No? Have you seen any? They’ve got a bunch of monsters on their football team, right. So, that’s what we’re focused on. That’s what Bryce is focused on. We’re not focused on who’s going to go where next year.”

The Texas vs. Michigan Citrus Bowl will kick off at 3 p.m. ET from Dec. 31.

How has Bryce Underwood fared at Michigan this season?

In November 2024, Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to join Michigan. The QB has enjoyed a solid first year with the Wolverines.

In 12 games this season, Underwood has completed 179 of 293 passes for 2,229 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also added 323 yards and five touchdowns on 74 carries.

Michigan finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, earning the No. 18 rank in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Underwood will aim to lead the Wolverines to a win over Texas in the Citrus Bowl to finish the season on a high note.
