Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle was once featured in the well-recognized 12-question interview with Jeff Gluck in 2013. During the interaction, Gluck asked Biffle about people who helped him form his career in stock car racing.
The 55-year-old driver debuted in the Cup Series in 2002 with Roush Racing and drove the #16 Ford, clinching a P13 finish at California Speedway. Reflecting on his performance, Jack Roush gave Biffle a full-time seat with the team in 2003. He then drove the #16 Ford for the team till the 2016 Cup Series season.
However, it was not a piece of cake for Greg Biffle. During the interview, Biffle told Gluck that many people helped him in forming his NASCAR career. He showcased his gratitude to Benny Parsons and stated (via USAToday.com):
"That's a hard one. There are a lot of people that gave me an opportunity. I could start by saying Benny Parsons (who recommended Biffle to car owner Jack Roush), right? Without Benny, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you." "Without John Miller, the guy who sponsored me when I was driving my Late Model car, the guy who gave me the money to go to Tucson Raceway Park and race -- because I didn't have the money -- then I would have never met Benny," he added.Greg Biffle further highlighted that Lauren Wade helped him learn more about business. He also stated that his parents inspired him to compete in oval track racing. Biffle competed for Jack Roush's team throughout his career but never once got the chance to clinch the Cup Series championship title.
“I should’ve left several times”: When Greg Biffle got candid about leaving Jack Roush’s team
In March 2025, former stock car racing driver Greg Biffle was featured in an episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast. During the interaction, Biffle opened up about his regret of not leaving Roush Racing while he had the chance.
Biffle spent his career with Roush Racing, piloting the #16 Ford. He amassed 19 victories, 92 top fives, 175 top tens, and 13 pole positions in 504 starts. He came close to claiming the Cup Series championship title in 2005 and 2008 but finished second and third.
The Washington native believes that if he had left Jack Roush's team, he would have won the championship title. Reflecting on that, Greg Biffle told Dale Jr.:
"I'll be perfectly honest with you; I should have left several times. I think I should have; later on, just didn't have the equipment. And I think I could have went somewhere else and won a lot of races and potentially a championship, but I was afraid. I was just nervous about making that change. You know, what's like switching teams? The other thing that was a big factor is I was really good friends with all of my sponsors, and I would have had to leave those people as well." [00:01]Greg Biffle concluded that the team owner, Jack Roush, let the technology beat the team. Despite the struggles, Biffle claimed top ten spots in the Daytona 500 six times in his Cup Series career, and his career-best finish at Daytona International Speedway came during the 2010 and 2012 seasons, when he clinched third place.
