Will Wade to LSU with $15.3 million price tag before contract as rumors heat up

1 hour ago 2

If you thought LSU might entertain bringing in Will Wade for a second stint in Baton Rouge, there are some hurdles behind it all. The biggest being a $15.3 million total buyout. That would be the cost before any negotiation would begin between the Tigers and Wade.

LSU would have to fund the $10.3 million buyout for Matt McMahon and $5 million to NC State for Wade. Not saying it couldn't happen, but that's a tremendous asking price without a future contract being involved in the equation.

This directly refutes a report by TigerBait's Mike Scarborough, who said the LSU–Will Wade situation was no longer "Impossible," according to his sources.

McMahon is likely out and has felt a foregone conclusion for weeks. However, putting up a ton of cash upfront with no promise of different results would be a negative on the books. This also comes at a time when the LSU athletic department has already paid off Brian Kelly, signed Lane Kiffin to a monster deal, putting up over $40 million for a football roster, and still has to account for other sports.

Stranger things have happened in Baton Rouge. However, Wade doesn't seem to be the right move in the cards at this point. The NC State coach has a 19-12 this season before the ACC Tournament. The Wolfpack need a solid tourney in Charlotte to stay off the bubble, according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi. They're currently a No. 10 seed in the latest Bracketology.

As for McMahon, LSU (15-16) would need to win the SEC tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
