Will there be a Diablo 5, and when might it release?

A potential Diablo 5 release is seeing a lot of discussion right now, even though Diablo 4 is 10 seasons in, with another well on the way. It could be for a lot of reasons; some people aren’t thrilled about the direction D4 has gone in over the last few seasons, despite the current season being incredibly fun, with a decent amount of build variety. Others are simply craving something new, whether it’s story, or different gameplay.

However, if you’re hoping to hear an announcement about Diablo 5 anytime soon, we’ve got some bad news for you. It’s not likely to happen anytime soon. I wouldn’t expect to hear talk about Diablo 5 until well after 2030, and that’s a generous estimate.

There could be a Diablo 5, but don’t expect it for around another 10 years

Will there be a Diablo 5? I think eventually, sure, there’s going to be one. The franchise is entirely too profitable to not see more releases. Between Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal, they’re making money hand-over-fist. While fans may hate how expensive those microtransactions and skins are, there’s no doubt that Blizzard is really raking it in right now, so there’s no reason to stop supporting Diablo 4.

Sure, there may eventually be a Diablo 5 release, but you also have to consider that Rod Fergusson said that Diablo 4 has a ten-year plan. This was said to Stephen Totilo in an interview with Game File:

“We’re here for the long haul. We’ve been doing long-range planning recently. And I’ve created a roadmap—a 10-year roadmap…it was actually a 12-year [roadmap]—I can see this, this, this and this and all these different things that we can do, [which] is really inspiring. And it’s really exciting. We’re focused on what players want…I can’t tell you much more than that.”

Sure, Rod Fergusson is the person who stated this, and while he’s no longer with Blizzard, I doubt they’ll just throw all of his plans in the trash, especially when the game is doing as well as it is financially. We’ve got Vessel of Hatred right now, and we know that another expansion is coming, likely in 2026.

While this is just speculation, we’ll likely see two more expansions before there’s even a discussion of D5 in the public eye. Diablo 4 may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying that it’s here to stay, for at least the next 8 or so years.
