Why Zion Williamson isn't playing tonight for Pelicans vs. Celtics with injury news

11 hours ago 2

The New Orleans Pelicans certainly hope this isn't the start of anything notable.

But for their game against the Boston Celtics on Monday night, Zion Williamson is in street clothes.

Williamson has averaged 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals through the first two games of the season.

He'll hit the sideline Monday, though, in hopes of healing up.

The Pelicans do get starting center Yves Missi back. That doesn't replace Williamson, but it's a bit of positive news.

Why isn't Zion Williamson playing tonight?

Zion Williamson is out on Monday due to injury.

He's dealing with what has been termed a left foot bone contusion.

Zion was originally questionable before being ruled out not long before tip-off.

The Pelicans are looking for their first win of the season after dropping games to the Grizzlies and Spurs.

They're taking on the 0-3 Celtics, so something has to give.

Trey Murphy III and Jordan Poole should get all the shots they can handle on Monday night with Zion out.
