Why Jalen Green isn't playing vs. Jazz and what it means for Suns

6 hours ago 3

The Phoenix Suns will attempt to snap their four-game losing streak in Friday's NBA Cup West Group A matchup against the Utah Jazz, though they'll remain shorthanded.

Jalen Green has been ruled out for a sixth consecutive regular-season game due to a strained right hamstring, according to the NBA's official injury report. The 23-year-old shooting guard also missed the entire preseason because of the hamstring injury, though he's currently considered day-to-day, according to Kellan Olson of ArizonaSports.com

Green will join Dillon Brooks, who is nursing a core muscle strain, on the sidelines. As for the Jazz, Isaiah Collier and Georges Niang will remain out.

What Jalen Green's absence means for Suns

With Green sidelined, Grayson Allen should continue to draw the start alongside Devin Booker. While he's shooting just 41.5 percent from the field, Allen is averaging 16.8 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game through five regular-season outings.

Collin Gillespie will likely continue to see increased minutes, while Jordan Goodwin and two-way player Isaiah Livers are candidates for an uptick in playing time as well.

Aside from the team's season-opening win over the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 22, Phoenix hasn't made a strong impression with its retooled roster thus far. However, the Suns have been without Green for the entire season, while Brooks is set to miss his third consecutive contest Friday.

The Suns will look to bring both Green and Brooks back in the near future, with their next chance to play coming Sunday against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
