On Thursday, October 30, following the final verdict on the lawsuit between NewJeans and ADOR, the American singer, Kesha, took to her X account to post in support of the K-pop girl group. On October 30, the court ruled in favour of ADOR, thereby upholding the validity of the exclusive contract between the two parties.
This means that NewJeans has lost the lawsuit and will have to continue work under ADOR until their contract expiration. However, the K-pop girl group has also filed an appeal to reevaluate the final verdict since they have no intentions of returning to the agency. Following this, several fans have been expressing their support towards the girl group, including the American artist Kesha.
My heart is with you NewJeans ❤️
Here's what her X post read:
"My heart is with you, NewJeans ❤️"When this post landed on the internet, netizens had divided opinions and reactions for the same. On one hand, people were happy to see fellow artists and celebrities, especially seniors, standing up for the junior artists in the industry and supporting them against their agency. On the other hand, netizens criticized Kesha's alleged lack of research and insight into the lawsuit.
Many expressed their disappointment with Kesha's support of NewJeans, given that the lawsuit also communicated the girl group's support and defense towards the former ADOR CEO, Min Hee-jin. The criticism was mainly due to the allegations and lawsuit against Min Hee-jin for bystanding workplace s*xual harassment and bullying.
Here are a few reactions from the internet regarding the same:
"You clearly have no idea about the situation at NewJeans, or you wouldn't have this opinion. Do some research, honey." said a fan@KeshaRose You clearly have no idea about the situation at NewJeans, or you wouldn't have this opinion. Do some research, honey.
More netizens criticized Kesha's alleged lack of research into the girl group's lawsuit with ADOR and expressed disappointment regarding the same.
I'm gonna assume she doesn't know the full situation, cuz there's no way she's out her supporting a group of women who harass minors and support someone who was just found liable for harassing a victim of s*xual harassment.
You know they are actively and loudly supporting someone who covered up for S*xual Harassment and even bullied the victim into silence, right?
There’s nothing more annoying than western artists doing no research on a case that doesn’t affect them at all… Not everyone ‘fighting’ a label is doing it for legitimate reasons.
screw you actually. Those girls launched a hate campaign against several other groups and lied through their teeth so they could keep a CEO who bullied staff and defended s*xual harassment. If your heart is with them then you didn’t stand for what I thought you did.
On the other hand, fans of NewJeans have been thrilled and happy about the supportive message from a global artist, especially since it would increase the awareness of the lawsuit.
this means so much on so many different levels actually!!!!!!! newjeans you are forever loved and on the right side of history don’t give up!!!!!
A QUEEN ACKNOWLEDGING QUEENS BRB IMA CRY 😭
thank you! i don't understand how anyone is on the side of this label?? we are talking about kids here??
I'm crying so hard rn. Imagine being a victim of a similar industry and fighting all your life, just to see younger artists going through a similar helpless situation and unable to get out of it
Court rules in favor of ADOR and upholds validity of exclusive contract, NewJeans filed an appeal as response
Following the year-long lawsuit between NewJeans and ADOR regarding the termination of the exclusive contract proposed by the K-pop girl group, on October 30, the court ruled in favor of ADOR. The court failed to recognize any behavior from the agency that stands as a breach of contract or violation, and also stated that the group's claim of workplace harassment holds insufficient evidence.
Here's what the final verdict stated:
“It is difficult to conclude that ADOR breached the exclusive contract solely by dismissing former CEO Min Hee Jin. Even if Min Hee Jin was removed from the CEO position, she could have performed producer duties as a director on the board, and it was not necessary for her to remain CEO to do so.”The statement continued,
"It is hard to see whether Min Hee Jin’s dismissal is a core issue that determines the continued validity of the exclusive contract, and there is no clause in the contract that provides a basis for this. Even if the defendants (New Jeans) had great trust in former CEO Min Hee Jin, that alone does not constitute grounds to terminate the exclusive contract.”The court conclusively stated,
"Even after dismissing former CEO Min Hee Jin, ADOR continued efforts to carry on management work with the defendants. Considering preparations for album releases, performances, and fan meetings, and advertising and tour plans, it is difficult to conclude that the plaintiff (ADOR) neglected its management obligations.”However, as a response to the court's decision, NewJeans have filed an appeal for a reevaluation of the final verdict, thereby prolonging the conflict between the K-pop girl group and ADOR.
