Why Brock Nelson is wearing a bubble shield facemask for Team USA in Olympics vs. Sweden

Brock Nelson is a physical player, and that led to his latest predicament.

Nelson is rocking a full bubble face shield during the Olympic quarterfinal against Sweden on Wednesday for Team USA.

It's not a style choice a hockey player would make willingly. It's not exactly helpful for breathing.

But on this day, that's what Nelson had to do.

Why is Brock Nelson wearing a bubble shield facemask?

Nelson is wearing the extra covering over his face as protection.

He took a big hit to the face in the final preliminary game on Sunday against Germany. This prevents further damage.

The U.S. certainly wants Nelson out there. He's been a key contributor so far in these Games.

Nelson is also a third-generation Olympian, with a key trend on his side. His grandfather won a hockey gold medal in 1960. His uncle won a gold medal in 1980.

Now, Nelson is trying to be on the third United States team to claim gold.

He isn't going to let a bit of a face injury hold him back.
