The Toronto Blue Jays made what felt like a major splash last offseason.
They paid big money to bring in power-hitting, switch-hitting outfielder Anthony Santander.
And here the Blue Jays are, in the World Series. It all worked out, right?
Well, not exactly.
Santander isn't taking part in the World Series at all.

Why isn't Anthony Santander playing?
Anthony Santander is missing out on the World Series due to injury.
The Blue Jays had him on the ALCS roster, but he was removed before Game 4 due to a back ailment, and that made him ineligible to be on the World Series roster.
Santander won't suit up for Toronto again until 2026.
This season didn't go how he would've planned. Santander struggled out of the gate and then missed most of the year (and most of the Blue Jays' surge up the standings) due to injury.

By the time Santander got back, he hit terribly on his rehab assignment and the Blue Jays had uncovered multiple unheralded outfielders who were shining brightly in his absence.
All told, Santander hit .175 in the regular season with a .565 OPS. His six home runs in 194 at bats were about his only real productivity, and certainly not enough of it.
Santander is getting big bucks, but he'll likely have to work to regain his lineup spot next season.
