Who is Husan Longstreet? LSU's freshman five-star backup quarterback ready if Sam Leavitt is out

LSU Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt is listed on the Wednesday SEC availability report heading into the Week 3 contest against No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels. He's listed as doubtful in one of the biggest games this college football season.

While his status is unknown right now, LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. could call on Husan Longstreet if Leavitt isn't ready to go by Saturday. This would be an unexpected turn in the matchup with the former five-star possibly getting the first start of his career.

Longstreet, a USC transfer, has benefited from making the move to Baton Rouge. The Corona Centennial (California) prospect played in four games with no starts for the Trojans last season, throwing for 103 yards and a touchdown. He's a dual-threat quarterback with a cannon for an arm and can be a high-efficiency distributor who changes speeds when needed.

At 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, one of his biggest attributes is his speed. Longstreet is very effective on run-pass options with an unbeatable burst. Overall, he's a natural passer with pure athleticism and is ready to play at a high level. When you consider how he ranks in the 2025 recruiting class, this could be a breakout moment for him.

Longstreet was the No. 4 QB last year behind Michigan starter Bryce Underwood at No. 1, Alabama starter Keelon Russell at No. 2 and Ohio State backup Tavien St. Clair at No. 3. All four are five-star talents and have a bright future ahead of them. He was also the No. 32 prospect overall and No. 3 in California, according to 247Sports.

No. 7 LSU (2-0) takes on eighth-ranked Ole Miss (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Both teams are preparing for enhanced security measures for Lane Kiffin's return. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
