England beat Australia by four wickets in the fourth Test on Saturday (December 27) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). It is England's first Test win on Australian soil after a long wait of 12 years.
The home team batted first, losing the toss, and got bundled out for 152 on a spicy surface. English pacer Josh Tongue picked up a five-wicket haul and starred for his side in the bowling department. Michael Neser (35) top-scored for Australia, batting in the lower order.
Neser then scalped a four-wicket haul and helped his team skittle out England for just 110 and secure a lead of 42 runs. The hosts failed to build on the advantage by performing poorly with the bat yet again, getting all out for 132 in their second innings.
Jacob Bethell (40), Zak Crawley (37), and Ben Duckett (34) played with positive intent and steered England towards the target of 175. They eventually reached 178/6 in 32.2 overs on the second day to get off the mark in the series.

At the post-match presentation, English skipper Ben Stokes admitted that it had been a tough tour for them but expressed joy for turning things around with a victory in the Boxing Day Test. Reflecting on the win, he said:
"It has been a tough tour. But we are really happy to have won this match. I hope it means a lot to the fans. We play for a lot of different things. They come to support us in Australia or wherever in the world. The lads hear the chants and it spurs them on in the middle. After the couple days building up to this Test match, it feels good."He continued:
"There was quite a lot thrown our way. A lot of credit goes to the players. And the management, they ensured that the lads' focus was on the cricket. It was short, sharp and very very tricky. It was heavily favoured towards the bowlers. The way we went about chasing 170 today was the perfect way to go about it."The fifth and final Ashes 2025-26 Test will commence on January 4 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
