What Jaylen Waddle trade means for Broncos WR depth chart, Bo Nix

1 hour ago 3

The Denver Broncos hadn't made a single outside addition through the first week of free agency. But they made a splash in a blockbuster trade for Jaylen Waddle.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos are sending a first, third, and fourth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for Waddle and a fourth-rounder.

But, after such a blockbuster trade, what does the Broncos' wide receiver depth chart look like? And how does this Waddle addition impact Bo Nix and the rest of the WRs on the roster? There are some big impacts to Waddle coming to Denver this offseason.

What does Jaylen Waddle's trade mean for Broncos WR depth chart

With Waddle now set to join the roster, pending a physical, Waddle will be one of the top two receivers on the roster. Courtland Sutton will be one of the other starters, leaving one starting job open, and the depth will be sorted out among the rest.

Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, and Michael Bandy round out the current Broncos wide receiver room following the Waddle trade.

While Sutton and Waddle might be the two top receivers, Franklin, Mims, and Bryant are very good third, fourth, and fifth options for an offense.

They're so good that the Broncos might be better off trading one of Mims or Franklin for something in return to help a different part of the roster that could use some more help.

The Broncos have two dominant wide receivers in Waddle and Sutton for Nix to throw to, and with Bryant showing promise at the end of 2025, one of Mims or Franklin is likely to be the odd man out going forward.

While there is reason to hold onto them as depth options, the Broncos, if the right opportunity arises, could use one of those wide receivers to acquire help at running back, tight end, or on defense this offseason.

They could also look to acquire extra draft capital now that they've parted with a first and third rounder to acquire Waddle from the Dolphins.

This roster is in a great spot, and this Waddle trade only makes the Broncos' wide receiver room even better. It's no longer just a deep room; it's a deep room, and it has two incredible options to lead the offense in 2026.
