What happened to Brandon Woodruff? Brewers' pitcher injury concern rises from velocity problem

1 hour ago 3

Brandon Woodruff didn't allow a run on Thursday, but the Milwaukee Brewers' big right-hander didn't even make it to the second inning.

That's because his velocity never showed up, and the injury concerns were strong and immediate.

The Brewers are relying on Woodruff in a big way this season after trading Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets in the offseason.

At the moment, though, Milwaukee is having to figure out how to navigate things without Woodruff.

What happened to Brandon Woodruff?

Woodruff had to exit action on Thursday very early due to injury.

His fastball didn't get above 85 miles per hour in his short stint on the mound:

Woodruff's 4-seam fastball average velocity this season had been 92.5 MPH, so clearly this wasn't anything near where Woodruff normally resides with the heater.

The indication would be that something is wrong in Woodruff's right arm.

It's too early to speculate on how bad it could be or how much time Woodruff might miss.

For now, it's just clear the Brewers are facing some potential news that they wouldn't want to hear.
