It’s hard to imagine the soccer world without FC Barcelona, but if the last few years have shown anything, it’s that security is hard to find in the industry. After Bartomeu’s time as president came to an end in 2021 and Joan Laporta returned to the club, it was clear that Barcelona wanted consistency and stability, even when the sporting and financial situation was anything but steady.
Well, it’s unclear if Laporta’s second term provided that sense of calm that fans wanted. His damaged relationship with club legend Lionel Messi, the Dani Olmo registration dilemma, and the Negreira controversy were all highlights of his second term as president of Barcelona. Yet, somehow, the sporting results reflected a team on the come-up, not one in crisis. The club secured two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, three Spanish Super Cups, and a deep run in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League under Laporta’s guidance in this tumultuous time.
The team’s reliance on La Masia as a lifeline for the first team was necessary for the club to build its identity from the ground up. Xavi, despite his recent drama with Laporta coming to light, was entrusted with setting the foundation that Hansi Flick has used to platform the club to heights not seen since the Messi era. Flick’s aggressive system built on improvisation and rotations rather than strict positional play with little room for personal interpretation has paid dividends.
Laporta’s re-election brings hope and questions regarding Barcelona’s future
With Laporta at the helm for the foreseeable future after the club members voted for him to lead the institution for a third term, Barcelona is placing their bet on a passionate and intensive figure who has faced tough opposition from people close to the club, has not fully resolved Barça’s financial insecurity, and yet, is still popular within Barcelona dressing room itself.

To be quite frank, only time will tell.
