What did Yankees get for Camilo Doval? Pirates send two prospects for veteran reliever

The New York Yankees made their first move of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. But it wasn't an acquisition to bolster their World Series odds.

Instead, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Yankees sent Camilo Doval to the Pittsburgh Pirates. But what did the Yankees get for Doval? Passan reported that two prospects are coming over in the deal, but which prospects did the Yankees get?

According to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, the Yankees are picking up Luis Cruz and Omar Alfonzo in exchange for Doval.

Yankees acquire two prospects from Pirates for Camilo Doval

"The New York Yankees are acquiring minor leaguers Omar Alfonzo and Luis Cruz from the Pirates' Dominican Summer League affiliate in exchange for Camilo Doval, per sources," Romero reports.

While the Yankees aren't getting one of the Pirates' top prospects for Doval, these two youngsters are fairly interesting additions.

Alfonzo is a 22-year-old catcher prospect who has a .238 batting average and a .756 OPS this season in 62 games for the Pirates. He is the Pirates' No. 17-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Cruz, on the other hand, is an 18-year-old outfield prospect who is unranked in the Pirates farm system. He has a .300 batting average and an .843 OPS in 50 at-bats this season, and is just getting started with his professional career.

To land both of those prospects, the Yankees sent Doval to the Pirates. The former All-Star reliever, whom the Yankees acquired at last year's trade deadline, has a 4.54 ERA and -0.8 bWAR this season for New York.

He's under club control through 2027, but the Yankees have parted ways amid his struggles since coming to the team in a trade with the San Francisco Giants.

In exchange for Doval, the Pirates are sending Alfonzo and Cruz to the Yankees. It's an intriguing return for the Yankees, as they upgrade their catching depth, and pick up a teenage outfield prospect who could rise the farm system rankings in the coming years.
