What did Ruben Amorim say to Man United fans after final match? Old Trafford on-pitch speech in full

3 hours ago 1

Manchester United's dismal 2024/25 reached its conclusion on Sunday with a 2-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa.

The 20-time English champions have long been assured of their worst-ever Premier League season and wrapped up the 38-game campaign on just 42 points.

United headed into the final game of the season winless in eight top-flight fixtures, going back to a mid-March win at relegated Leicester City. Their performance against Villa was far better than recent matches, so fans inside Old Trafford could at least enjoy a win before the summer.

Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag as head coach in November but failed to inspire an upturn in fortunes. Indeed, a 15th-place finish charts depths a team of United's size and resources should never realistically reach in the modern era.

Wednesday night's Europa League final offered a shot at partial redemption but Amorim's side produced a familiarly limp performance to lose 1-0 to fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese tactician committed himself to giving United's traditional on-field address after the final home game at Old Trafford. This was definitely an easier gig during the glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson.

It's fair to say the players and fans were behind the manager as he apologised for the season but promised that better days lay ahead. There were plenty of cheers from the stands, and the players clapped during the pauses.

Ruben Amorim speech: Every word Man United boss said at Old Trafford

After United's 2-0 victory, delivered through goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen, Amorim stood with his players in the centre-circle and spoke into the microphone.

First of all, I want to apologise for this season. I am really disappointed with the team.

I want to say thank you. We are very grateful for your support during the season. I know it was really hard to suffer in many games.

Now, we have to make a choice. We can stay in the past. But this season is in the past — it's over. We [can] fight each other, or we stick together and move forward.

Six months ago, in my first three games in charge with two victories and one draw, I said to you, 'the storm is coming'. Today, after this disaster season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.

If there is one club in the world that proved in the past it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it's our club. It's Manchester United Football Club.

Now, I want to say sorry also to my players. Sometimes, I was not fair, but I tried always to be honest to you guys.

Thank you very much. See you next season.
