Steelers get ugly Aaron Rodgers update amid free agent pursuit

5 hours ago 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers are assumed as the favorite in Aaron Rodgers’ free agency.

But Rodgers still hasn’t signed, and that presents some doubt.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler added some uncertainty to the equation earlier this week.

Fowler joined the Dan Patrick Show and spoke about Rodgers’ desire to potentially end up elsewhere.

"There’s some teams I’ve talked to, they are still kind of wondering, like, is [Aaron Rodgers] just waiting out the Vikings, you know?” Fowler said. “Because the Vikings would be an ideal scenario… I checked in with the Vikings, I still don't expect that. They're moving forward with J.J. McCarthy.”

The good news for the Steelers is that the Vikings seem set on McCarthy as their dude.

The bad news is that Rodgers hasn’t seemed fully invested in Pittsburgh.

Yes, there have been indications that Rodgers is dealing with serious off-field stuff that isn’t meant to be downplayed.

But if he wants to join the Steelers wholeheartedly, it’s still curious that a contract hasn’t been signed yet.

This Vikings wrinkle would at least help explain the delay.

Maybe it means nothing in the long run. If Rodgers signs, that’s probably good enough. He’s 41 and can handle his business just fine.

But it’s just one more thing that will have Steelers fans waiting anxiously to see if they actually get their quarterback.
