Carlos Alcaraz might have lost to Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2025 ATP Finals on Sunday, but he won the hearts of the Italian fans in Turin with a warm message to his opponent in front of his home fans.

Alcaraz and Sinner both came into the final of the ATP Finals unbeaten in the tournament, with a 4-0 record. On Sunday, however, it was Sinner all the way. The Italian lost serve only once on the night, winning 7-6(4), 7-5 to win his second straight title at the year-end tournament.

In the presentation ceremony afterwards, Alcaraz was all praise for Sinner's level, calling him a great player and lavishing praise on his team for helping him along the way.

"I’m just really really happy with the level I played today. I just played against someone who hasn’t lost a match on an indoor court in 2 years. That shows what a great player you are. You and your team are putting great work every time. You come back even stronger after every loss. You don’t have many but you come back stronger. Well deserved," Carlos Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz also wished Sinner all the best for the off-season, with the ATP Finals being the final tournament the World No. 2 is scheduled to play this year.

“I want to say it is a great year for you. It’s time to rest. Hope you’re gonna be ready for next year because I’ll be ready. Hopefully I’ll play more finals against you. Well deserved year. Well deserved trophy," he added.

The Spaniard, on the other hand, will play one more tournament to close out the year -- the Davis Cup, representing Spain.

When it was his turn to speak next, Sinner returned the favor, praising his opponent for his successful season, which saw him finish as the year-end World No. 1.

"Amazing season Carlos. Amazing what you’re doing. The whole team. I know it’s a lot of work. A lot of great great memories you’ve done for your career. Well deserved for the year-end World No. 1. I’m extremely happy [for you]. If it’s another player than me I’ll always choose you," Sinner said.

The Italian also added that his rivalry with Alcaraz made him a better player, giving him the motivation to better himself constantly. He said:

"You are definitely a player I look up to. A lot of motivation. I need this. Every practice session with big purpose. We are all very happy. The whole fans are very happy to see you play. You’re the most energetic player on tour. I wish you best of luck. I hope to see you again too next year. Hopefully great great battles ahead of us."

Sinner, who led Italy to the Davis Cup in the last two years, has opted to rest this year. Their No. 2, Lorenzo Musetti, has also announced his withdrawal from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz will lead the line-up for Spain, with the likes of Germany, Czechia, Belgium, Austria, Argentina and France competing for the title this time around.
