“We’ll find out the truth in the ring” - Tawanchai responds to Liu Mengyang claiming he’s scared

Undisputed ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai of Thailand laughed off Liu Mengyang's claim that he’s been ducking him.

The Chinese striker has been vocal about his belief that the Thai superstar wasn’t really injured when he opted out of their initial booking earlier this year.

At ONE Friday Fights 37: Tawanchai vs. Liu on Dec. 19, these two elite 155-pound warriors will settle their differences inside Bangkok’s fabled Lumpinee Stadium.

Speaking to ONE Championship in his pre-event interview, Tawanchai said he didn’t take ‘Spirit Dragon’s' trash talk personally since he was just generating buzz for the fight.

"Liu Mengyang claimed I was afraid of him, but I know better; people say things for engagement. We'll find out the truth in the ring.”

Moreover, the featherweight Muay Thai kingpin still expressed respect for his next opponent despite his pre-fight antics:

“I see Liu as a tough, durable fighter with good punching skills. That's what's visible right now. As for his weaknesses, you'll have to watch the fight to find out."

Tawanchai vows atonement at ONE Friday Fights 137

Tawanchai feels the need to repay the trust of his devoted fans who stood by him during the toughest defeat of his career.

While falling short against Masaaki Noiri still stings, he knows he can redeem himself against Liu Mengyang.

"In the last fight with Masaaki, I made a mistake and got hit by his punch. I don’t feel like I performed poorly. The plan was good, but he came prepared. When I threw a knee, my guard dropped, and I got caught cleanly," Tawanchai told the promotion.

He continued:

“I was deeply disappointed in myself after that fight. I feel my capabilities weren’t at 100 percent, and people may feel that wasn’t the real Tawanchai. I know where the mistakes were, and I need to fix them.”
