Warriors get concerning Steph Curry injury news

The Golden State Warriors’ injury concerns continue to linger. A recent Steph Curry update likely isn’t sitting right with the team.

According to ESPN NBA Insider Marc Spears, Curry suffered a setback “around All-Star weekend.”

"Around All-Star Weekend, [Steph] had a setback. He was trying to get back and it pushed him back. I'm not sure when he'll be back but I do know that he wants to come back...He wants the chance to be in the playoffs."

The veteran sharpshooter was voted into the big game this season, but he was ruled out for the matchup as his knee injury has kept him off the court for quite some time.

“He was trying to work out, trying to get back, and it pushed him back. I’m not sure when he’ll be back,” Spears added.

The 17-year veteran hasn’t played since the Warriors’ January 30 matchup against the Detroit Pistons. At the time, he checked in for 25 minutes, shooting 7-16 from the field, scoring 23 points.

As he dealt with discomfort, Curry left the court and wouldn’t return for the following game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Suddenly, that was the new norm for the Warriors for the time being. Going into the All-Star break, the Warriors planned to keep Curry off the floor for some time.

Since they’ve been back for three games, Curry remains out of the lineup. After missing the February 25 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry officially missed nine games in a row. He doesn’t have a timeline for his return, sprinkling in more concern.

Considering where the Warriors stand, one has to wonder if Curry would see value in returning. The Warriors planned to compete for an NBA Championship. They are 31-28 with a spot in the Play-In as the eighth seed.

Is it worth it for Curry to put his long-term health at risk, knowing their key forward Jimmy Butler has no chance at returning for a playoff run? No matter what anybody else thinks, Spears suggests that Curry wants to play again this year—whether that’s next week or later.

“[The Warriors are] probably too bad for a playoff lock, top six spot, but they’re too good to not be in the play-in. So, Steph expects to be in the play-in. He wants to be in the play-in. He wants the chance to be in the playoffs.”

Golden State will take the floor on Saturday, February 28, to face the Los Angeles Lakers. All signs point to Curry staying off the court until at least next week.
