Warriors coach makes huge Kevin Durant trade announcement on desired deal

The Golden State Warriors look back fondly on their Kevin Durant era.

So fondly, in fact, that they wanted to run it back.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently appeared on the Tom Tolbert Show and shared the Durant desire.

"I think it's well documented that we were trying to get Kevin Durant, but that didn't happen," Kerr said.

Durant had reportedly made it clear that he didn't want a return to Golden State.

That's when the Warriors pivoted to try and get Jimmy Butler.

"And after that, Mike [Dunleavy] calls me and says, 'I think we're going to trade for Jimmy Butler, I'm going to vouch for him. Guy's a gamer, hell of a player, and I think that's gonna work.' And I said, 'Great, let's do it.' We needed a change," Kerr said.

With Butler, the Warriors made a gigantic late-season surge. They didn't get to see just how dangerous they could be in the playoffs, though, because Stephen Curry got hurt.

Golden State looks likely to run it back with Curry, Butler and Draymond Green for the 2025-26 season.

It's kind of too bad that we don't get to see KD in a Warriors uniform once again.

But the Dubs will just have to make the best of what they've got, which is still pretty darn good.
