Victor Wembanyama's next season could be legendary if Tracy McGrady is right

Last season proved to be a dream season for both the San Antonio Spurs and franchise star Victor Wembanyama. After finishing as runners-up in the NBA Cup, the Spurs enjoyed an outstanding regular-season performance before making the NBA Finals.

However, the season did not end the way Wembanyama and the Spurs had envisioned. San Antonio ultimately fell short of winning the NBA championship, losing to the New York Knicks in the Finals. Despite the heartbreaking finish, expectations remain extremely high for Wembanyama.

During a recent episode of "Cousins," former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady made a bold prediction for the 22-year-old star. McGrady stated that he believes Wembanyama will dominate the league by winning both the MVP award and the Defensive Player of the Year honor next season.

"He’s going to win Defensive Player of the Year. He’s gonna win MVP. He’s gonna win the in-season Tournament MVP. He’s going to sweep. So for me, I think because he’s going to be motivated and they had a big let down and disappointment this year, I’m going San Antonio Spurs to be right back in that position and to win a championship,” McGrady said.

If Wembanyama were to accomplish the rare feat of winning both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season, he would enter one of the most exclusive groups in NBA history. Only three players have ever achieved that remarkable double in a single campaign. These three superstars are Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Considering Wembanyama's super athleticism, many believe he has the talent to become the next player to join that historic list. The 22-year-old won the DPOY award last season. Wemby was the youngest winner in NBA history and the first unanimous recipient of the DPOY honor. He also finished third in MVP voting while earning his second consecutive All-Star selection and his first career All-NBA First Team nod.
