After an impressive run three years ago, Venezuela is looking to make some noise in the World Baseball Classic once again in 2026.
The Venezuelans went unbeaten in pool play in 2023, topping a tough group that included the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, before falling to the United States in a tough quarterfinal loss.
Manager Omar Lopez will have plenty of talent at his disposal, with the likes of Ronald Acuna Jr., Salvador Perez, Eugenio Suarez and Luis Arraez on the roster along with William and Willson Contreras.
Venezuela won't be as strong as it could have been thanks to the absence of stars like Jose Altuve, one of several players unable to participate due to lack of insurance coverage, and Pablo Lopez, who recently underwent season-ending elbow surgery.
Still, Venezuela will be a favorite to advance to the knockout stage and should contend with longtime rival the Dominican Republic to win Pool D.
