Another former Golden State Warriors assistant might take a head coaching leap soon.
Jerry Stackhouse is reportedly in the running for the Chicago Bulls head coaching vacancy, according to Marc Stein.
The UNC basketball legend and former 18-year NBA vet has been in the coaching ranks and widely-respected as one of the best players' coaches in the league. He spent two seasons under Steve Kerr in the Bay Area after serving as the head coach of Vanderbilt. Stackhouse also had stints as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors right after his playing career.
The other coaches said to be in the running to take over in Chicago are Spurs associate head coach Sean Sweeney, Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, Thunder assistant Dave Bliss, Trail Blazers interim head coach Tiago Splitter, Pelicans interim head coach James Borrego and Bulls assistant Wes Unseld Jr., according to Stein.
Stackhouse is 70-92 overall as a head coach in five collegiate seasons. He earned SEC Coach of the Year honors in 2023.

As one of the most celebrated UNC players of his era, Stackhouse's No. 42 jersey is retired by the program. The All-American was the top prep player for the Tar Heels since Michael Jordan in 1982. He led UNC to a Final Four appearance in 1993, earning a National Player of the Year nod by Sports Illustrated.
