Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa drew criticism online on Sunday after the opening series against the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins used a timeout before their first snap, and Tagovailoa threw an interception moments later at Hard Rock Stadium.

Fans on X were critical of his turnover.

"Tua Turndaballova strikes again," one fan wrote.

"Tua i appreciate your int donation," another fan wrote. "Dolphins are cooked if they can't figure out how to get out of that terrible contract," a fan commented.

More reactions came in.

"Dolphins already used a timeout and threw a INT one minute into the game," one fan said. "Tua again with his favourite play," another fan said. "People will still try and tell you Tua is a good qb," one fan tweeted.

Miami opted to take the ball first after winning the coin toss but stumbled immediately. A false start flag backed the offense up before a play was ran. The Dolphins were forced to use a timeout with the clock still at 15:00 in the first quarter.

Facing third-and-11, Tagovailoa tried a deep throw downfield into tight coverage. Bills safety Cole Bishop made the pick with 13:33 remaining, marking the quarterback's 12th interception of the year. It is the second most in the league behind the Las Vegas Raiders' Geno Smith.

Buffalo failed to capitalize on the early turnover, going three-and-out before punting back to Miami. The Dolphins regrouped with a composed, clock-chewing march downfield that covered 92 yards across 12 plays.

Tua Tagovailoa finished the drive with a short touchdown pass to Malik Washington, putting Miami ahead 7-0 with 4:49 left in the first quarter. The offense converted only one third down, thanks to a 6-yard run from Alec Ingold.

Sunday’s matchup carried major implications for the team's postseason hopes. The Bills entered the matchup riding a seven-game win streak over Miami, holding a 6-2 record compared to Bills' 2-7. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen improved to 9-1 all-time against Tagovailoa.

Miami hasn’t beaten Buffalo since September 2022.
