Triple H may have subtly confirmed Cody Rhodes will not face his former tag team partner again

At WWE Saturday Night's Main Event XLI, Cody Rhodes retained his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre, albeit in controversial fashion. The American Nightmare used the title belt to his advantage, even though he would have lost the title by disqualification had the referee seen it.

After losing to Rhodes for a second time, it seems WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has confirmed that the two former Tag Team Champions will not be facing each other again.

Drew McIntyre was in the Last Time is Now Tournament Promo

Interestingly, Drew McIntyre was a part of the promo video for John Cena's The Last Time is Now Tournament, and seems to be a strong contender to win. The Scottish Warrior is one of the top stars in WWE and would be a great final opponent for Cena.

His first round match hasn't been announced yet, but it could be revealed tonight on SmackDown.

Cody Rhodes has already defeated him twice

It doesn't make sense for Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre to continue feuding if there are no plans for a title switch. The events of Saturday Night's Main Event have severely deflated McIntyre's chances of being perceived as a serious contender for the WWE Title.

He had already lost to The American Nightmare at Wrestlepalooza, and Rhodes has nothing to gain by beating McIntyre again. As a result, the two should move on to other, more interesting storylines.

McIntyre needs a new program after losing to Rhodes

Fans were quite disappointed after Drew McIntyre once again failed to dethrone Cody Rhodes despite the odds being in his favor due to the stipulation. Now, unless the creative team decides to make him champion, he needs to begin a new storyline to restore his credibility.

Probably the best way to do so would be to win the Last Time is Now Tournament and challenge John Cena in the legend's final match. The Scottish Warrior is exactly the kind of brash heel that Cena has shone brightest against, and allowing him to send the Franchise Player off into the sunset would help him regain some serious momentum and potentially help him contend for a world title again in the future.
