TreVeyon Henderson injury update is positive sign for Patriots RB's Week 17 status

The New England Patriots have a big question mark at the running back position in Week 17, as TreVeyon Henderson is in the concussion protocol.

Henderson suffered his concussion in Week 16, forcing his early exit from the contest.

Now, the attention turns to this week to see if the rookie can get through the concussion protocol ahead of the game against the New York Jets.

So far, Henderson appears to be off to a good start this week.

ESPN's Mike Reiss reports that Henderson is looking like he's going to take part in practice on Wednesday in some capacity.

"From the locker room: RB TreVeyon Henderson, in a red non-contact jersey, puts on his helmet to presumably head out to practice," Reiss reported.

The red non-contact jersey is typical for a player going through the concussion protocol, so no concern there. If Henderson is able to log so much as a limited practice, it will put him on track to play.

If he is limited, the next step will be for Henderson to turn in a full practice. After that, he'll have to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can play.

Now that it looks like Henderson is practicing on Wednesday, he has ample time to clear those hurdles ahead of Sunday.

Of course, just because he practices on Wednesday does not mean Henderson is a lock to get cleared, but it is the best possible sign for his chances of suiting up.
