Travis Hunter injury update: Should fantasy football managers be concerned about Jaguars WR being placed on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars and fantasy managers received bad news involving Travis Hunter on Friday. The wide receiver/cornerback was placed on injured reserve after suffering a noncontact right knee injury during Thursday's practice.

The decision means Hunter will miss at least the Jaguars' next four games, while the team runs tests to check how severe the injury is. This could be terrible news for fantasy managers, especially now that most leagues are entering the final stretch of the season. Should they be concerned about Hunter's situation? Let's take a look.

The Jaguars are set to run more tests to determine the extent of the injury, but the initial tests revealed that the ACL is healthy. Travis Hunter will go through more tests, per Adam Schefter, but no update will be provided until next week.

The ACL update is great news for fantasy managers, but waiting until at least Week 13 to have Hunter back doesn't sound like a good deal.

Jaguars coach Liam Coen shared how Hunter felt after the decision, sharing that everybody wants to be on the same page before he returns to the field.

"We're currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team," Coen said. "Feel bad for the guy, for the kid, for our team, for everything, but he's in good spirits right now. Minor setback for a major comeback. That's just the way it's got to be."

In seven games, Hunter has recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown on offense. Additionally, he has recorded 15 tackles and three passes defended on defense. His impact hasn't been generational at all, but he was settling into his positions by the week.

Coen used him in 67% of the team's offensive snaps and 36% of the defensive snaps.

Travis Hunter's fantasy outlook for 2025 season

Travis Hunter entered the NFL with high expectations following a terrific career with the Colorado Buffaloes. The two-way player was projected to score 212.54 points by ESPN. That number will decrease now that he will spend four weeks sidelined.

It might be easy for some to think they should drop Travis Hunter, but fantasy managers could use a WR3 or flex after Week 13, when players are still going into bye weeks and surprise faces can make the difference.
