Top performances at Texas high school football state championships

Another high school football season in Texas is now officially in the books.

Last week, 12 state championships were awarded at the UIL State title games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Here, now, is a list of several of the top performances by players in each championship contest:

Sean Stanaland, Jayton

The Jaybirds’ quarterback was 7-of-8 passing for 102 yards and two TDs and also rushed for two more TDs in Jayton’s 54-8 win against Oakwood in the 1A Division II title game.

Colt Gentry, Jayton

Gentry had a receiving TD, a fumble recovery in the end zone for a TD and a 73-yard fumble return for another score. He also recorded six tackles, two solo stops, one pass breakup and one forced fumble.

Stryker Reed, Gordon

Reed threw for 86 yards and two TDs, rushed for 91 yards and two scores and also intercepted a pass as the Longhorns won back-to-back titles after defeating Whiteface, 70-24, in the 1A Division I championship game.

Ry Reed, Gordon

Reed rushed for 99 yards on just five carries and three TDs, while registering 11 tackles and six solo stops on defense.

Casen Carney, Muenster

The Hornets’ QB was 15-of-20 passing for 171 yards and added 147 yards rushing on 35 carries with four scores in the Hornets’ 36-29 win against Shiner for the 2A DII title.

Garrett Hess, Muenster

Hess caught four passes for 63 yards while making eight tackles on defense, along with four solo stops.

Triston Vesely, Shiner

Despite the Comanches’ loss to Muenster, Vesely was named the game’s Defensive MVP. He had 14 total tackles, eight solo, two tackles for loss, a pass breakup and half a sack.

Bryce Ullman, Ganado

Ullman was 13-of-22 passing for 172 yards and two TDs while adding a rushing TD as Ganado outlasted Stamford, 30-28, in three overtimes to win the 2A Division I title. He also had eight tackles on defense, two for loss.

Cain Hayden, Ganado

Hayden caught six passes for 102 yards and two TDs and also picked off two passes on defense.

Kaston Vega, Stamford

Vega rushed for 89 yards and two TDs and also was his team’s top tackler on defense with 16. He had six solo stops and two tackles for loss along with half a sack.

Preston Tarpley, Gunter

The Tigers’ quarterback was 9-of-15 passing for 121 yards and two TDs as Gunter won its third straight title after blanking Woodville, 28-0, to claim the 3A Division II title.

Cash Rumage, Gunter

Rumage caught two passes for 73 yards, including one for a 59-yard TD.

Hayden Farrell, Gunter

Farrell made 11 total tackles, four solo and 5.5 tackles for loss. He also registered three sacks.

Adam Schobel, Columbus

The TCU-bound quarterback was 15-of-21 passing for 261 yards and two TDs and also added a rushing TD as the Cardinals claimed their first-ever championship, beating Malakoff, 48-14, for the 3A Division I title.

Grayson Rigdon, Columbus

Rigdon capped an outstanding high school career with 119 yards rushing on 18 carries and four TDs. He has won four state titles with three different squads.

John Schobel, Columbus

The cousin of Adam Schobel, John had a big night on defense for the Cardinals. He had 10 total tackles, four solo, along with three sacks, three tackles for loss and a hurry.

KJ Edwards, Carthage

Edwards rushed for 188 yards on 18 carries and two TDs as the Bulldogs won their 10th state championship, all under coach Scott Surratt, after a 28-14 win against Waco La Vega for the 4A Division II title.

Daquives Beck, Carthage

Beck was at the forefront of a strong Bulldog defensive performance in their title-game win. He had 10 tackles, seven solo, along with 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a hurry.

Junior Henderson, Carthage

The Bulldogs’ receiver caught four passes for 77 yards, including two TDs to help Carthage seal title number 10.

Bowe Bentley, Celina

The Bobcats’ QB was 9-of-14 passing for 265 yards and five TDs and added 68 yards rushing as Celina defeated Kilgore, 55-21, for the 4A Division I title.

Luke Biagini, Celina

Biagini made nine total tackles, four solo. He also had half a sack, as well as taking an interception back for a pick-six.

Colton Rodriguez, Celina

Rodriguez caught five passes for 149 yards and two TDs.

Landen Williams-Callis, Richmond Randle

A sophomore tailback, Williams-Callis rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries and a TD as Randle - in just its third season as a varsity program - outlasted South Oak Cliff, 38-35, to claim the 5A Division II title.

Ryan Mallory, Richmond Randle

Mallory came up with 12 tackles for the Lions. He also had three solo stops and two tackles for loss.

Mikail Trotter, South Oak Cliff

Despite the Bears’ loss, Trotter had a huge night, gaining 170 yards on 19 carries with two TDs.

Cade Spradling, Smithson Valley

Spradling threw for 61 yards and a TD and also added 147 yards rushing on 25 carries with a TD as the Rangers won their first-ever title with a 32-20 win against Highland Park in the 5A Division I title game.

Julian Colunga, Smithson Valley

Colunga intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD in a momentum-shifting play for the Rangers.

Buck Randall, Highland Park

Despite the Scots’ defeat, Randall threw for 316 yards and two TDs.

Miles Teodecki, Austin Vandegrift

The Vipers’ QB was 14-of-17 passing for 248 yards and two TDs to help Vandegrift win its first-ever title after defeating Southlake Carroll, 24-17, for the 6A Division II championship.

Scott Buchanan, Austin Vandegrift

Buchanan recorded seven tackles along with three solo stops and broke up two passes.

Brendan Fournier, Austin Vandegrift

Fournier rushed for 160 yards on 28 carries and had a TD in the Vipers’ win.

Chris Jimerson Jr., North Crowley

The North Texas signee completed 14-of-23 passes for 299 yards and four TDs and also had 63 yards rushing with a score as the Panthers capped a perfect 16-0 season with a 50-21 win against Austin Westlake in the 6A Division I title game.

Quentin Gibson, North Crowley

A receiver and Colorado signee, Gibson caught seven passes for 181 yards and three TDs.

Cornelius Warren III, North Crowley

Warren finished off a tremendous postseason run for the Panthers by gaining 217 yards rushing on 23 carries with a TD.
