MLB's hot stove season is finally here with the free agency period opening up. The San Diego Padres have a tough decision to make this offseason regarding starting pitcher Dylan Cease.
Cease is set to hit the open market and be one of the top starters available on the market. In a recent prediction, Dylan Cease is projected to receive $27 million AAV in his contract extension.

Dylan Cease predicted to receive $189 million in his next contract
MLBTradeRumors.com recently came out with its top free agent big board, along with predictions, and Dylan Cease is featured getting a seven-year, $189 million deal.
Cease pitched to a 4.55 ERA this season over 168 innings, but he also struck out 215 batters. He is the only starter in MLB to make 32 starts in each of the past five seasons, which also drives his value up.

In 2024, Cease had a much more respectable 3..47 ERA in 189 innings, and 224 strikeouts. He's also punched out 200+ batters in five straight years.
The Dylan Cease sweepstakes will be a great litmus test for the starting pitcher market this winter, as some teams may have problems with him giving up too many home runs and his high walk rate.
