The Western Conference is living up to its billing in the early weeks of the season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are playing like the reigning champions, but plenty of other contenders are surging — from the San Antonio Spurs to the Los Angeles Lakers and more. Two contenders face off Friday night when the Golden State Warriors host the Denver Nuggets.
The Warriors started the season strong with back-to-back wins over the Lakers and Nuggets, though slip-ups against the Indiana Pacers and Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Milwaukee Bucks have Golden State trailing the top of the pack in the West. Denver, meanwhile, won three straight after its season-opening loss to the Warriors and is hoping to get some revenge on Steve Kerr's squad.
No surprise, Nikola Jokic is likely the key. While Aaron Gordon erupted for 50 points the first time these two teams met, Jokic shot less than 35 percent from the field and just 2-of-13 from 3-point range. As he heats up, Jokic likely won't be so easy to contain this time around.
