Top AEW star to join WWE and immediately replace Dominik Mysterio in Judgment Day? Analyzing the possibility

WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio was in action in Mexico earlier this month, taking part in a blockbuster tag team bout. It has now been unfortunately revealed, however, that due to an injury he had sustained in the match, the third-generation superstar will be out of action for some time. Seeing how that leaves a big spot open in The Judgment Day, the Stamford-based company could bring in a top AEW star to fill it after the latter's contract expires- the talent in question being none other than Chris Jericho.

On December 20 at AAA Guerra De Titanes 2025, Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano teamed up against Rey Fenix and Rey Mysterio in an unsuccessful effort. The bout ended with The Master of The 619 finishing off and pinning his son for the victory. Despite his tag partner helping him up to his feet, "Dirty Dom" frustratedly walked out on Americano after the matchup, and has not been in action since then.

On the latest edition of WWE RAW, it was revealed that Dominik had suffered a shoulder injury at Guerra De Titanes, and may have to stay away from the squared circle indefinitely. Furthermore, in a backstage segment, Liv Morgan spoke to Raquel Rodriguez about the thinning ranks of The Judgment Day, alluding to Mysterio being "out for a little bit". Dom's absence right now leaves a big vacuum in the stable, and the Triple H-led promotion could make a big move to fill it by giving the spot to former AEW and ROH World Champion, Chris Jericho.

Y2J has been missing from AEW programming since this past April, and recent reports indicate that he could be headed back to WWE for a retirement tour after his All Elite contract expires at the end of this year. Throughout his AEW run, Jericho has led multiple factions, and at this point in his career, it could be a smart move to bring the veteran back not as a solo performer, but as a band leader once again.

The Ayatollah of Rock N' Rolla taking Dirty Dom's place in The Judgment Day could eventually lead to a major generational feud between Dominik and Jericho over the IC Title, a belt the inaugural AEW Champion has held many times. His arrival in this fashion could also kickstart a power struggle involving another top member of the faction, Finn Balor.

Chris Jericho commented on potential WWE return

This past Saturday, AEW presented its last pay-per-view of the year, Worlds End 2025. Around that same time, Chris Jericho appeared in a non-wrestling YouTube special, Christmas Dinner with The Winnipeggers. During the stream, a fan voiced their hope to see the former JAS and Inner Circle leader return to WWE. Jericho's response was interesting, as he did not dismiss the possibility, saying:

"You never know. You never know.” [H/T: Fightful]

It remains to be seen if Chris Jericho will be back in his old stomping grounds this coming month.
