India Women beat Australia Women by five wickets in the Women's World Cup 2025 semifinal at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. The Women in Blue will now meet South Africa in the final at the same venue on November 2. Incidentally, India were the last team to beat Australia in the Women's World Cup, when they defeated the Aussies in the 2017 semifinal.
Batting first after winning the toss, Australia posted a mammoth 338 on the board in 49.5 overs. Phoebe Litchfield smashed 119 off 93 balls, while Ellyse Perry contributed 77 off 88 and Ashleigh Gardner 63 off 45. For India, Shree Charani was economical with figures of 2-49.
In the chase, Jemimah Rodrigues guided the Women in Blue home with a special knock - 127* off 134. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89 off 88) also played an extremely crucial innings. #1 India Women create history with record chase
India's chase of 339 in Navi Mumbai is a new record for the highest target successfully chased down in Women's ODIs. It was a case of sweet revenge for the Women in Blue as the previous record chase (331) was by Australia against India in Visakhapatnam in the league stage of the ongoing Women's World Cup.
India Women's previous highest successful chase was 265 against Australia in MacKay in 2022. With that win, India ended Australia's record 26-match winning streak in ODIs. With the win on Thursday, they ended Australia's 15-match winning streak in the Women's World Cup.
India's win also marked the first instance of a 300-plus score being chased down in an ODI World Cup knockout match (Men's or Women's) The previous best was 298 by New Zealand against South Africa in the 2015 edition.
#2 India register their highest total in Women's World Cup
India Women's total of 341-5 in Navi Mumbai against Australia is now their highest total in the Women's World Cup. Their previous best was 340-3, which came against New Zealand at the DY Patil Sports Academy in the league stage of the ongoing World Cup.
India's total of 341 is also the second-highest score by any side against Australia in women's ODIs. The highest has also been registered by India - 369 in Delhi in September 2025 during the three-match series.
#3 Jemimah Rodrigues breaks Smriti Mandhana's massive record
Jemimah's unbeaten 127 in the Women's World Cup 2025 semifinal against Australia is now the highest individual score for India Women in ODI run chases. The previous highest was 125 by Smriti Mandhana against Australia in Delhi.
The 25-year-old joins skipper Harmanpreet as the second India batter to score a hundred in a Women's World Cup knockout match. Jemimah is only the second batter to score a ton in a chase in a World Cup knockout match. Nat-Sciver Brunt scored 148* in the 2022 final.
#4 Jemimah-Harmanpreet register highest World Cup stand against Australia
Jemimah and skipper Harmanpreet added 167 runs for the third wicket in the Women's World Cup 2025 semifinal against Australia. This is now the highest-ever partnership against Australia in Women's World Cup matches, bettering the 157 added by Mithali Raj and Punam Raut in Bristol in 2017. Overall, this is the third-highest partnership against Australia in Women's ODIs.
#5 Phoebe Litchfield breaks massive record with ton
Before Jemimah stole the show in the Women's World Cup 2025 second semifinal, young Australian batting star Litchfield had also etched her name in history books. At 22 years and 195 days, she became the youngest to slam a ton in a Women's World Cup knockout match.
Litchfield's 77-ball ton is also the fastest ever in knockout games in Women's ODIs. The previous fastest was in 90 balls by Harmanpreet (vs Australia in 2017 World Cup semifinal) and by England's Nat Sciver-Brunt (against Australia in the 2022 World Cup final).
