A veteran journalist noted that Tony Khan didn't want MJF to beat a top AEW star for the world title. The Salt of the Earth captured the World Championship by pinning another major star at Worlds End 2025.
Tony Khan didn't want the major AEW star, Hangman Adam Page to be defeated by Maxwell Jacob Friedman, according to the expert, Dave Meltzer. At Worlds End 2025, MJF pinned Samoa Joe after hitting a low blow on Hangman to capture the All Elite Wrestling World Championship in a four-way match also involving Swerve Strickland.
Many fans were wondering why Hangman Page lost the title to Samoa Joe at Full Gear 2025 if the plan was to eventually crown MJF. Speaking on the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Tony Khan didn't want MJF to beat Hangman for the World title, so he had Max pin Samoa Joe instead.
Dave also noted how challengers like Swerve, Hangman, and Jon Moxley are lined up for months to come for MJF, as he didn't pin any of them:
"Adam Page has 2 wins over MJF on PPV last year. They wanted to get the title on MJF without him beating Adam Page. Swerve didn't get pinned and Adam Page didn't get pinned and you have Moxley so they got challengers lined up for months."MJF's first AEW World title defense revealed
After MJF became the new AEW World Champion at Worlds End 2025, his first title defense has also been revealed. Last Wednesday on Dynamite, Bandido defeated Ricochet to win the Dynamite Diamond Ring and earn an All Elite World title shot.
Therefore, Bandido will be challenging Maxwell Jacob Friedman for the World Championship at the Dynamite: Maximum Carnage on January 14th, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Salt of the Earth has also been advertised for a promo segment on Dynamite: New Year's Smash. What transpires in the segment this Wednesday remains to be seen.
