The Indianapolis Colts prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, with Philip Rivers making his unexpected return to the field. The Colts moved quickly after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14 and reunited with Rivers, who played with them in 2020.

Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that Rivers will start against the Seattle Seahawks, one of the strongest teams in the NFL.

"The #Colts will start QB Philip Rivers on Sunday against the #Seahawks, sources tell The Insiders. Age 44, out of retirement, after a full week of practice, Rivers is a go."

Many fans reacted to the report, with some feeling for Rivers, as he will face the best defense in the league.

"Against one of the best defenses in the league poor Philip is getting thrown to the wolves," one fan said. "Mike Macdonald about to be charged with elder abuse," another fan said. "So his first game back is against the team allowing the second fewest points?" another fan questioned.

Others said they would be tuning in to see how the 44-year-old quarterback fared and even speculated about his reasons to return.

"this is going to be must watch television," one fan said. "I’m way too invested into this. I feel like this is the much watch game of the week," another fan said. "He saw Matt Stafford getting close to his record and said, 'hold my beer son,'" another fan said.

Philip Rivers has played 244 NFL games, posting a 134-106 record, throwing for 63,440 yards and 421 touchdowns with 209 interceptions. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler and former Comeback Player of the Year award winner.

While some think his story is inspiring, others think the Colts made a mistake by bringing him back.

Ryan Clark lashes out at Colts over Philip Rivers move

Former NFL safety turned analyst Ryan Clark strongly disagreed with the Indianapolis Colts' decision to unretire Philip Rivers. During Friday's episode of ESPN's "First Take," Ryan went in on the AFC South team.

“I believe this is incompetent,” Clark said. “And I also believe it is irresponsible. This is not Michael Jordan coming back to play basketball after three years off for the Washington Wizards. This is a man in Philip Rivers who was always a stationary target taking five years off to coach high school football and then coming back to play against the Seattle Seahawks, who would get after your keester if you were freaking Michael Vick.”

Rivers will resume his career at Lumen Field on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
