Cowboys' Trevon Diggs decision for Week 15 at odds with cornerback's expectation

The Dallas Cowboys won't have cornerback Trevon Diggs for yet another game.

That's because the Cowboys did not activate Diggs from injured reserve on Saturday ahead of their Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

"Trevon Diggs’ return will have to wait. He was not activated off injured reserve. He said Friday he expected to play vs. Vikings. One more week before he needs to be added to 53-man roster or remains on IR," ESPN's Todd Archer wrote.

Diggs has been on injured reserve since October after he suffered a concussion in an at-home accident that remains a mystery as far as specific details are concerned.

It's at least somewhat surprising that Diggs won't be activated, as the veteran corner said he expected to play in Week 15.

“I’m ready,” Diggs said on Friday. “It’s definitely been hard (not playing) because, of course, you want to get back out there. But people feel how they feel, and you just gotta roll with the punches and keep pushing forward.”

Now, the Cowboys didn't say Diggs would play during the week, but it is strange that he wasn't activated despite proclaiming himself ready.

"He's still in the ramp-up period," head coach Schottenheimer said during the week. "I think he does feel healthy. I know he wants to play. But at the end of the day, we have to do what we think is in the best interest of not just him, but also the football team."

"And when you miss some time, there's the ramp-up period. It is not just for your body, but for your mind and figuring out some of the defense, and there's some new faces in the huddle and things like that," Schottenheimer added.

Clearly, the Cowboys didn't agree with Diggs that he's ready, so we'll have to wait another week for his return.

Dallas will almost certainly activate Diggs ahead of next week's game, though, as the failure to do so will result in him being forced to miss the rest of the season.
