Three potential Brian Daboll replacements for Giants head coach

The New York Giants find themselves at another 0-2 start after a 40-37 loss in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants are 0-2 for the seventh time in nine seasons and they are on the verge of having another NFL season over before the month of October hits.

With this being Brian Daboll's fourth season as the head coach, they have regressed every single season. They were 9-7-1 in his first season, 6-11 in his second season, and 3-14 in his third season. With them being 0-2 and a tough schedule ahead, there is a chance that the Giants finish with a 3-14 record or worse during the 2025 NFL season. They are 0-8 against NFC East opponents in the last two seasons. Who could potentially replace Daboll as head coach if they were to move on from him after this season?

New York Giants Potential Leader to Replace Brian Daboll After 2025 Should Start with Jeff Hafley

Assuming that the Giants move on from Daboll after the season, the first candidate that should be on top of their list is Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Hafley has done a tremendous job with the Packers in the first two games of the 2025 season and also during the 2024 season. He has unlocked this defense's potential with the addition of Micah Parsons.

If Hafley were to be the next Giants head coach, he can unlock the potential of Abdul Carter, Brian Bruns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence on the field at the same time. He would know what to do with those players in certain situations. Current Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has not done a good job with the defense during his tenure as New York's defensive coordinator.

The Giants have also not done well with offensive head coach overs the year after they let go of Tom Coughlin. New York has not hired a defensive coach once. Maybe hiring Hafley would be a good move for the franchise. The Giants need a tough hard-nosed head coach in the building and maybe they need a drill sergeant as well to change the culture.

Two other people that the Giants could potentially look at for head coach is Mike McCarthy and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores. McCarthy has been a head coach with the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys before. McCarthy has won a Super Bowl with the Packers and is also a leader of men and has been a consistent winner at the NFL level.

As for Flores, he used to coach the Miami Dolphins. Flores no doubt is ready to be a head coach in the NFL elsewhere once again. He would be able to do wonders with the Giants personnel on defense. Flores would be able to command a room and take no non-sense. He was starting to develop a sustainable winning culture with the Dolphins until he was abruptly fired from there.

Hafley should be number one, McCarthy should be number two, and Flores should be number three on the Giants list to potentially replace Daboll in the future. However, if the Giants can somehow win games in 2025, then his job will be saved but it doesn't look like it right now.
