Analyst Encourages Maple Leafs To Pursue Stanley Cup Winner For Scoring Depth

If the Maple Leafs want to add some serious scoring depth on the cheap, one analyst believes they should target none other than Robby Fabbri.

With the concerns this offseason surrounding whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs have enough scoring depth after losing Mitch Marner, they have been at the forefront of a heaping spoonful of rumors linking them from the biggest names to the smallest fish.

Running out of time and without a lot of money to spare (unless they make a deal soon) they are going to need to look to the PTO market potentially which worked to great success last year and very well could repeat again in 2025-26.

However it's a question of who, and according to Maple Leafs analyst Jeremy Tingly; it's someone who Craig Berube has a lot of history with.

In a recent article, Tingly mentioned that the Leafs should go after Robby Fabbri as he offers a great bit of versatility but just ran into some bad luck recently:

"Talk about bad luck, Fabbri has had a bunch with three different ACL surgeries throughout his career. The 29-year-old former first-round pick is from Mississauga, and played a combined 42 games for Berube on the Blues’ Stanley Cup-winning team in 2018-2019.

Fabbri is coming off a 44-game season with the Anaheim Ducks, in which he posted eight goals and eight assists, averaging 16:12 of ice-time, including time spent on the Ducks’ second power play unit."

The hometown connection, familiarity with the coach and motivation to have a bounce back year makes him a solid candidate for the Maple Leafs, but can they fit him in?

With Nick Robertson having just signed a new deal and looking to make his mark, Easton Cowan fighting to prove he belongs, as well as question marks like Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf still technically have a place given their veteran status.

If Toronto wanted to still make that identity change but bring in a trusted veteran, Fabbri is a great choice. In 442 games he's posted 216 points (106 goals, 110 assists) while adding 16 points in 30 playoff games including a 15-point campaign in 2015-16; he won a Stanley Cup with Berube and the St. Louis Blues in 2018-19.

A PTO doesn't mean the team needs to commit to bringing in Fabbri, however the flexibility and familiarity he brings makes him a potential candidate for a cheap contract in the coming weeks.

Depending on how he bounces back, it could be an absolute steal.
