Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown had a moment of reflection when it came to talking about the business side of the NBA. It's known among fans that drastic events can happen around the league at any given moment. The most shocking happenstance of it occurred during the 2024-25 NBA season, when the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis.
Even star players can get moved, no matter how great a potential they've presented. Boston's star player believes he doesn't hold his fate in the franchise. Brown discussed his potential future during an appearance at rapper/streamer DDG's recent live stream session.
“In our league, it’s a business. It’s not up to me. Sometimes it’s me, sometimes it’s not,” Brown said.•

However, the four-time All-Star made it clear that players have nothing against the city.
“But that doesn’t mean I don’t f**k with the city, or that I wouldn’t mind being here for my whole career. But you know, anything can happen at any given moment. They traded Luka, they traded Kevin Durant, they traded some all-time Hall of Famers. So you fall in line with that if it comes down to it.”Brown is in the second year of his five-year, $285 million contract. The future looks bright for the star forward since his name hasn't been mentioned in trade rumors. He also helped the Celtics win the Larry O'Brien trophy in 2024.
However, fans can't be too confident with that since Doncic was moved by the Mavericks even though his name wasn't mentioned in trade talks. If a player of that caliber can be traded, other stars could have a similar experience.
Brad Stevens reveals the Celtics' trade deadline plans
The Boston Celtics are not expected to be title contenders this season. Without their best player, Jayson Tatum, the team might not be a serious threat in the postseason. However, they've managed to be somewhat competitive. With a 15-11 record, Boston has managed to be fourth in the standings.
Team president Brad Stevens addressed the question of what they are planning for the upcoming trade deadline.
“I think that we’re all still trying to figure out who we are and what we can be,” Stevens said. “We will not put a ceiling on this group. If it makes sense for us to look for things that can help us, we certainly will.”Stevens went on to say that helping the Celtics compete is the aim of any possible deals they make this season.
