Joe Burrow and the Miami Dolphins could have been in a very different position on Sunday if one of the AFC East franchise's most ambitious plans in recent times materialized in 2020. The Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in that year's draft, four positions after the Cincinnati Bengals landed Burrow, one of the most exciting prospects in recent memory.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the Dolphins presented a huge offer to the Bengals to acquire the No. 1 overall pick and land Burrow.
"Before the 2020 NFL draft, the Dolphins offered the Bengals four first-round picks in exchange for the No. 1 overall selection and the ability to draft Burrow, league sources told ESPN. The Bengals declined to even engage in discussions and shut down the trade inquiry before it could gain any traction, according to sources."•

This tells you how rare true QB conviction is. They saw it early.
Could've sworn I heard this rumor back then...that they tried to trade up in that draft.
Others called out the timing of the report, suggesting that there was something behind it, more so knowing that Tagovailoa is likely out of the Dolphins.
"So weird and totally coincidental this comes out the week Tua gets benched. This doesnt at all read like someone in Miami is trying to save face and use ESPN as a mouthpiece to get their message out," one fan said. "and we’re reporting this in december of 2025 why exactly?" another fan questioned. "Ironic that this is coming out after it appears that they're going the other way with Tua," another fan said.Comparing Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa's careers
