The Toronto Blue Jays went to the World Series for the first time in the 21st century and they are trying to do everything this offseason to make sure they do it regularly. To do so, they are targeting big names such as Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker, both of whom bat left-handed.
While the Blue Jays' interest in Tucker is well known, given that the former Houston Astros star visited their facility in Dunedin, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal's sources, right-handed free agent batters such as Alex Bregman and Bo Bichette would be better additions in terms of defensive alignment.
“According to sources briefed on the conversations," Rosenthal said. "Ideally, the Jays want to add a left-handed hitter, but either the right-handed Bregman or Bichette would fit their defensive alignment better than Tucker or Cody Bellinger, both of whom bat left.”•

Bregman and Bichette are infielders. The former primarily plays third base and Bichette plays shortstop. Meanwhile, Tucker and Bellinger are both outfielders.
Why Alex Bregman could outshine Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger for the Blue Jays
According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays are "very much in the mix" for Alex Bregman, who played the 2025 season with the Boston Red Sox and posted strong numbers before opting out of the three-year, $120 million deal to become a free agent again.
Passan said Blue Jays' interest in Bregman isn't just nominal. They see the former World Series champion as a strong bat and a leader. However, this interest has some complications as well given the fit, because the Blue Jays already have Ernie Clement and Addison Barger to play third base.
In 2025, Bregman posted a solid .273/.360/.462 line with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs. He is a three-time All-Star and a Silver Slugger who has made the postseason numerous times with the Astros. Some rumors also mention that the very reason Bregman left the Red Sox is that he wanted a more competitive team. Right now, no one in the American League is more competitive than the Blue Jays.
