A former WCW Champion has made it clear he has no desire whatsoever to ever work for WWE again, as he valued his personal freedom. In a recent interview, noted writer Vince Russo said he couldn't function in a controlling environment.
Russo is credited as one of the architects of arguably WWE's most popular phase, the Attitude Era, in the late 90s. He penned some of the most outlandish yet enduring storylines of the time that are still fresh in fans' memories. However, he left the company soon after and later went on to work for WCW and TNA. Of late, Vince Russo has been a vocal critic of WWE's modern-day programming.
In a recent interview with -7 Sports, Russo was quizzed if he would return to the global juggernaut if he was offered a position in the creative team. The former WCW Champion explained that he had zero interest in working for a place where he would be denied creative freedom to do things his way.
"Never happening, bro. Never never happening, bro. I swear to God, bro, they could offer me millions of dollars. Because here’s what we spoke about earlier, bro. If you ever put Vince Russo in that system, bro, you’re not gonna control me. I’m not a robot. I’m not one of your NXT kids. I’m not 20some years old. I’m not gonna fall in line. You’re not gonna control me. And that’s what they want," said Russo.Vince Russo says WWE can't lure him with money
Elsewhere in the chat, Russo mentioned that no amount of money offered to convince him to work under a stifling management. He added that he was a creative person by heart and that he doesn't compromise on his freedom.
So, bro, that’s why, like, I would never for all the money in the world ever put myself in that situation because I would know that’s what they would want to do. And I’m a creative guy, bro. It ain’t gonna happen. And I’m not gonna kiss your a**. I’m not gonna kowtow. I’m not gonna fall in line. If you pitch something that I think sucks, I’m gonna tell you it sucks. And, bro, that would be the world’s biggest freaking nightmare.Going by just how critical Vince Russo has been of WWE's programming in recent years, it's unlikely the two parties would ever agree to work with each other.
