Unlike many film composers who join a project after the filming is done, Blumberg was involved from the very beginning of the film's production. He worked closely with director Mona Fastvold through every step, including early planning, the actual filming on set, and the final sound mixing.

This deep level of teamwork allowed the music and the story to grow together. Blumberg even recorded the actors singing during their weekends off to make sure the music felt real and raw. In an interview with ASCAP, he stated:

"It was total commitment for a year, every day until 2 in the morning. It was my whole life, really. I learned so much from being on this, but I will definitely never have an experience like this again in my whole life. I worked with Mona from the pre-production stage all the way to the final sound mixing, and I can say it is one of the most experimental, extreme projects I have ever done."

In an interview with Deadline Hollywood published on December 4, 2025, Amanda Seyfried discussed the raw and physically demanding nature of her vocal performance in The Testament of Ann Lee. She said:

"I had to completely unlearn everything I knew about performing for a camera. Daniel [Blumberg] wanted something that felt ancient and urgent. A lot of it was animal sounds as opposed to melodic sounds. I had to find these growls and high, shaky notes that felt like they were coming from my gut rather than my throat. I understood that I didn't have to sound beautiful in a way that is beautiful to me. It was more like a woman on her knees, just trying to communicate with something bigger than herself. It was exhausting but incredibly freeing."

The Testament of Ann Lee was released for a limited theatrical run on December 25, 2025.
