The Associated Press pushes retirement narrative on Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders hasn’t mentioned the end of the line anytime recently, even claiming that the only thing he has to worry about is his program winning games after a 3-5 start.

Still, as CU continues to look hapless like they did during a 53-7 loss to the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City this past Saturday night, it’s hard not to think Coach Prime isn’t having the same fun without his two sons on his team.

The Associated Press covered Coach Prime’s comments, but included the idea of retiring after this season or next in their lede.

“Deion Sanders refuses to look too far down the road, especially not in regard to how his recent health concerns might impact any decision on returning as Colorado's coach next season or beyond,” The AP’s staff wrote.

Deion Sanders retiring is a real possibility

Unfortunately, there’s every reason to question whether or not Sanders’ heart is still in coaching.

Looking ahead past this season, Coach Prime has the No. 68-ranked recruiting class, behind Group of Five schools like the Colorado State Rams, Tulane Green Wave, UNLV Rebels, Appalachian State, Mountaineers, and the USF Bulls, the latter of which Sanders turned down to come to Colorado. Even the Sacramento State Hornets are ahead of the Buffs.

There has been no hoopla about adding a top recruit like Jordan Seaton from two years ago or Julian Lewis last year. Instead, the focus has been on Sanders surviving games with a porta-potty on the sidelines and wearing Depend diapers.

All signs point to the “Prime Time” era in Boulder ending prematurely, long before Coach Prime’s extension fully matures.
