Diego Pavia had an impressive campaign with the Vanderbilt Commodores this season. His performance earned him a spot this year as a Heisman finalist.

In a clip going viral on social media, the Vanderbilt quarterback was asked to share his thoughts on who was the best college football player between Johnny Manziel and Lamar Jackson. Diego Pavia chose neither and crowned himself as the best choice.

However, fans were not happy with Pavia's confidence in choosing himself over Johnny Manziel and Lamar Jackson. They took to social media to criticize the quarterback for his arrogance.

"It's crazy, the whole country should've liked that Vandy is good but he's so unlikeable that he just completely ruined it," one fan commented.

Diego Pavia helped Vanderbilt to its first 10-win campaign this year. They ended the season with a 45-24 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers while putting up a 10-2 (6-2 SEC) record. The Commodores will face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the ReliaQuest Bowl game on December 31st.

Pavia ended the season tallying 3,192 yards and 27 TDs passing. He finished as the Heisman runner-up behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, becoming Vanderbilt's first-ever Heisman finalist.

Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea shares his honest thoughts on Diego Pavia's 2025 campaign

During Saturday's Heisman ceremony, Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea heaped praise on Diego Pavia and his achievements with the program this season.

He also highlighted how the quarterback impacted other players in the locker room while talking about the legacy that he will be leaving behind.

"The impact he's made in the locker room, that leadership, that toughness, that connection- the quiet connection that he makes- the humility in this process," Clark Lea said. "Those are the things and that's the legacy he leaves at Vanderbilt. "All the statistical numbers, all the great plays are one thing. But who this guy is as a person, how he's impacted Vanderbilt, that's what makes him the best."

Diego Pavia began his collegiate journey at New Mexico Military Institute in 2020. In 2022, he transferred to play for the New Mexico State Aggies and spent two seasons with them before transferring to Vanderbilt in 2024.
