The Philadelphia 76ers were bounced by the New York Knicks via a four-game sweep. It included back-to-back home losses, with game four being a 30-point blowout in front of their faithful fans. Well, the very few faithful fans that showed up.
This upcoming offseason is going to be very interesting. There are a number of things that have to be done to create the best team on the court, but one big thing has to happen off the court as well.
The 76ers need to re-establish the connection with their fans, and re-ignite the same hype that once was, "Trust The Process". The process is happening right now, but these fans cannot seem to trust that it's all that much.
The Knicks enjoyed a third and a fourth home game in this series, and there was nothing the 76ers could do to stop it. With the close proximity of the teams, it is nearly impossible not to favor one team over another. But it still had a direct impact on the game.
Most notably, 76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey was very disappointed in the home atmosphere.
This summer, and going into next season, the 76ers need to give these fans something to believe in again. Whether it be a new signing, a drastic change, or some statements acknowledging whatever happened in the second round of the playoffs will never happen again.
Regardless, the series is over, and whatever happened, happened. But, for fans of this beloved and historic franchise, there is nothing more than to scratch your head as to what went wrong. Was it the lack of home-court, or was this 76ers team just not good enough?
