The Atlanta Braves own the best record in baseball at 28-13 and are coming off a series win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Atlanta is also beginning to get healthier at the right time.
Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is set to make his season debut on Tuesday night, while outfielder Eli White will be heading to the injured list with a concussion.
“Ha-Seong Kim will make his season debut tomorrow night. Dubón has spent a lot of time recently in LF. He might occasionally move around. But I expect to see him remain a lineup regular. Eli White will spend the next week recovering from yesterday’s collision with the outfield wall,” Braves beat writer Mark Bowman wrote.
Catcher Sean Murphy left Sunday’s game early after his finger was hit by a bat during a catcher’s interference play late in the contest.
“In today’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers - a 7-2 victory for the second consecutive day - Murphy was called for a catcher’s interference when Hyeseong Kim’s bat nicked Murphy and he was replaced behind the plate by Drake Baldwin,” Battery Power’s DJourn wrote.
Murphy has not even been back on the active roster for a full week and already appeared to be at risk of returning to the injured list. However, with White’s injury announcement coming out and nothing being mentioned about Murphy, it could be a positive sign for Atlanta.
“I would assume Murphy's finger is fine otherwise they'd probably make that announcement along with HSK/White. The first week was pretty brutal but we really don't need him on the IL again with Heim traded,” Battery Power’s Scott Coleman posted.
Under no circumstances do the Braves want to lose Murphy to the injured list after just getting him back. The assumption is that if Murphy had suffered a significant injury, the organization likely would have announced it alongside the updates involving Kim and White.
Losing Murphy would not be ideal, especially after Atlanta traded former backup catcher Jonah Heim to the Oakland Athletics shortly after Murphy returned. That aggressive move by the Braves could come back to haunt them if Murphy were forced to miss additional time. For now, though, there appears to be at least some optimism surrounding the severity of Murphy’s finger injury.
