Most teams in the NFL are on a constant lookout for their franchise quarterback, and only a handful of teams can genuinely say they wouldn't trade their guy for anyone.
The Houston Texans, after C.J. Stroud's rookie season, were likely one of those teams.
Now? They likely aren't.
Stroud hasn't lived up to his rookie season, and this year, the playoff meltdown in which he threw four first-half interceptions was horrible.
And now, for PFF's Bradley Locker, a rather uncomfortable situation is beginning to take shape in Houston.
What to do with Stroud's fifth-year option.
"Based on his initial two years, it seems probable that Houston will pick up Stroud’s option for 2027," Locker wrote. "But how much will the foul taste at the end of last season impact Nick Caserio’s decision-making on the future of the former No. 2 overall pick?"

Where is Stroud's future?
Despite his obvious struggles over the past two seasons, is there a path that would see the Texans give up on their franchise quarterback?
Let me put it to you this way: How many teams, if they truly believe they have their franchise quarterback, would be hesitant to extend them?
Not many.
Stroud has shown flashes, but those flashes are becoming sparse now, and the playoff loss to the New England Patriots is our lasting memory of him this offseason, and that isn't good.
Yes, the Texans will likely keep C.J. around, but it might be through necessity more than desire.
