Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the T20I opener between India and Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29. The all-rounder will now miss his second consecutive white-ball game after being ruled out of the third ODI against the Aussies in Sydney, where India registered a consolation win in the series.
As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Reddy will miss the first three T20Is due to his left quadriceps injury that he sustained during the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide. The BCCI medical team is working closely with the Andhra Pradesh player.
In a statement, BCCI wrote after the toss:
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which has impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”🚨 Update Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. Notably, Nitish Kumar Reddy has played four T20Is for the Men in Blue, scoring 90 runs in three innings with a best score of 74 against Bangladesh in 2024. The medium pacer has also bagged three wickets. The 22-year-old holds an impressive record for the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL, amassing 485 runs in 22 innings at a strike rate of 132.87, including two half-centuries. He has also scalped five wickets in 12 innings.
Reddy would be gutted to miss out on three out of five T20Is owing to his all-round abilities. The right-handed batter recently slammed an unbeaten 19 off 11 balls, including two sixes on his ODI debut against Australia in Perth earlier this month.
No Nitish Kumar Reddy as India pick three spinners for 1st T20I vs Australia
Suryakumar Yadav-led India picked three spinners after being asked to bat first in the first T20I against Australia. They are Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel. Meanwhile, all-rounder Shivam Dube is likely to aid front-line seamers in Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana.
The Men in Blue are coming on the back of winning the T20I Asia Cup 2025. The reigning T20 World Cup champions will now be looking to win the T20I series Down Under.
